Catherine Leichtnam has been passionate about being active since she can remember playing soccer with the boys as a small child and trying every sport in which she came in to contact with. Her younger sister was a state competitive gymnast so she attempted that as well. Being discouraged with her flexibility, and not even being able to touch her toes after two years of gymnastics, she gave up on the idea of ever being flexible.
Through college Catherine continued soccer and also discovered aerobics. After college she joined a local gym where she started lifting weights and became intersted in nutrition, organic foods, and overall health. As tight as ever, her personal trainer recommended yoga. Catherine tried one class at her local gym and to her disbelief made tremendous progress rather quickly. After a few months of consistently attending classes, not only could she touch her toes, but she also noticed increased strength and flexibility in many other areas. She was then sold on the power of yoga and found that it helped her in every physical activity.
The opening of her mentor teacher Rochelle Townsend's yoga studio in New Jersey inspired her to follow her passion as well and become a teacher. She completed her 200 hour Power Vinyasa certification with Bill Raup at Power Yoga Works in Philadelphia, PA, an affiliate studio of Baron Baptiste.
Catherine has taught in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Japan, where she spent the last year and opened a small studio teaching both English and Japanese speaking students in the Power form of Vinyasa. Catherine recently moved to San Diego and is very excited to begin teaching in this beautiful area.
